Big hair is back babes!!! Who else loves volumized hair? As a Tennessee girl originally, not far from Dolly, I do! I have super fine limp hair, but everyone thinks it is a lot thicker! I have some BIG tricks to share with you!
Tip #1- Volumizing root product. If you apply the right product before blow drying your volume will last longer. I have tried a ton of different products, some were to heavy or crunchy, some made me itch, and some didn't do anything. The All-Nutrient Sculpt+ body amplifier is my favorite. It smells like raspberries and it is light weight with a good hold.
Tip #2-The blow-dry. A round brush is one of the best tools for volume and contrary to popular belief a small to medium round brush will get you more volume that a huge one. Now some of us struggle with the round brush and that is okay! I blow dry people's hair all day with a round brush, but can't use it on myself with out having a tangled mess. It is totally okay, just flip your head upside down and dry your hair that way. Also, taking a regular heat resistant brush and drying your hair in the opposite direction from which it lays will give you a boost!
Tip #3- Dry shampoo. This is a new love for me. I never thought I would be a dry shampoo girl, because I love clean hair. I am now a dry shampoo advocate! After washing and blow drying my hair, I spray dry shampoo on my roots. The volume and texture I get from it are amazing, and it helps my style last for two days instead of just one. I am currently loving the living proof dry shampoo, but I have heard great things about batiste (they have some for dark hair so you don't look powdery). Dry shampoo also gives some grit, making it way easier to tease it to Jesus, if you want really big hair!
Tip #4- Hairspray. I know some of you cringed, but hear me out. You don't have to use a super strength, max hold, make your hair feel like plaster hairspray. They have milder sprays that will allow you to still have movement. My favorite volumizing trick with hair spray is to put my hand against my head and push the hair up, spray it, hold it for a minute to let the spray dry and boom instant volume! (That is great for straight hair). When it is curled, I will turn my head upside down and spray it, or lean over with my head side ways and spray it.
Tip #5- Color. Coloring, especially getting highlights increases volume. It roughs the cuticle a little bit. which gives the hair more texture.
Tip #6- Haircut. It is hard to have volume if your hair is too heavy. There are many different techniques that can help: layering, texturizing, and tease cutting. Even if you have very thin hair, with the right hairstylist you can have volumizing methods done with out making your hair appear thinner.
