Myth: Plucking a gray hair causes more to grow back.

Truth: Plucking won't cause more grays, but plucking hair can destroy the follicle which can lead to bald spots. So skip the plucking and get it colored!


Myth: Brushing your hair a lot will make it healthy and help it grow faster.

Truth: Brushing your hair helps to distribute oils and can stimulate the scalp, but brushing it too much will cause stress and damage to the ends.


Myth: Dandruff is only caused by a dry scalp.

Truth: Dandruff can be caused by a wide variety of things not just dry scalp. There could be an irritant in your hair products. It can even happen if your scalp's pH is a little off balance. Some types of dandruff are caused by Malassezia, a fungus that normally lives on the scalp and feeds on oil so adding moisture doesn't help this type of dandruff. If you have persistent dandruff it is important to see a doctor.


Myth: If a shampoo lathers it contains sulfates.

Truth: Glycerin creates a lather and has no known risks when used topically.


Myth, maybe: Gray hair is caused by stress.

Truth: It is genetic. Stress hormones may impact the survival and / or activity of melanocytes (color creating cells), but no clear link has been found between stress and gray hair.
