I know we are half way through 2019, but in the south we move a little slower. We can really see these trends in our area now. I truly believe in having your own style and setting your own standards! But it is pretty interesting to see the impact that trends have around us. This blog is mostly related to trends in the hair industry, but you may notice some of the colors and shapes pointed out will also be popular in clothing and decor.
Color
Trends in 2019 are basically the opposite of last year. Last year the pantone color of the year was ultra violet, this year it is living coral. (Pantone is a huge company that kind of rules the fashion world and has a huge impact on pretty much anything else we buy.)
Ultra violet is on the cooler side of the color wheel. Living coral is a warm color and warmth is in! Don't fear warmth, it is more pleasant on most skin tones and it doesn't mean brassy. Last year we saw a lot of silver, lavender, icy blonde, muted reds, and ash brown. This year we are seeing rose gold, champagne blonde, rich reds, and chocolate brown.
Shapes
Square is in! Diagonal was popular last year so we saw a lot of swoopy bangs, maybe some V cuts in the back. Even with clothing, dresses were a cut at an angle, of shorter in the front and flowy in the back. This year the shape is square, think bobs, blunt cuts on long hair, and straight bangs. With clothing we can see this too with straight sharp seam lines at the bottom of dresses. Also blazers are popular and I am loving that!
Contrast
Contrast is back, but better!!! In the 80's and 90's we may have put a few colors together that didn't look so great together lol. The last couple of years it has been all about blending, and super soft dimension, like do you have highlights or is that your natural color? We are still bordering the "natural look" line, but we are turning up the contrast a bit and making sure the colors pop! You can see this in the prints on clothing as well (think floral patterns). Last year things got blurred together, this year there are more definitive outlines.
